By the time we bought tickets for the Jameson Distillery tour in Midleton, the only ones available were for 10 am. So…we were up early to pack and head out. The shower was a bit iffy so I skipped it. Charles and I walked down to beach while Greg finished getting ready.

The driving was getting easier, but still took a lot of mental energy. “Stay to the left!” “This is a NARROW turn.”
The tour of the distillery was very interesting. We saw lots of the old equipment and processing areas. To Charles’ great disappointment, we weren’t able to see the actual manufacturing area. After the tour and the tasting (which compared Jamesons with Johnny Walker Red and Jack Daniels), we had the opportunity for a premium tasting — four versions of Jamesons, with a guide describing everything. The participants were a bit noisy, so we didn’t hear everything the guide said, but it was fun.

I only had a few sips of whiskey, but I was not fit to drive 🤪🤪. We found a place for lunch within walking distance. My salad, with local scallops, was amazing, as was the fish chowder.

Then the drive to the Dingle Peninsula! We stayed at another AirBnb; this was an apartment attached to a farmhouse. The rooms were fine, the view out the back was spectacular. The pictures don’t do it justice. Dinner at a local pub. Charles tried a Murphy’s; he liked the Guinness a bit better. We were also wanted to try Beamish but didn’t find a pub with it available. At least one of the waitresses was terribly offended when we asked about it! (We have since found out the brewery was purchased by Heineken a number of years ago, so…) After dinner, we headed to another pub to listen to the music — Dingle is well know for the nightlife — but it was pretty crowded and we were tired, so we turned in early.
